"From Toxins to Magic Bullets for Cancer Treatment: a Biotech Success Story"

Dr. John Lambert (Christ's, Cambridge)

Our distinguished speaker, Dr. Lambert, is Executive Vice President, Emeritus, and Distinguished Research Fellow at ImmunoGen, Inc. After earning a PhD in Biochemistry in Cambridge, he completed postdoctoral studies in California and in Glasgow before coming to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute working on ImmunoGen-funded programs to develop antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and immunotoxins as anti-cancer therapeutics. This work continued in an independent laboratory established by ImmunoGen to translate this cutting-edge research into practical cancer treatments.

Dr. Lambert has written or co-written over 120 peer-reviewed scientific papers, and is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. Somehow he has also found time for mountain hiking and camping and to maintain a serious rowing career, competing in every Head of the Charles regatta since 1986 and serving on the HOCR Board. He is also a former President of the Oxford & Cambridge Society.

Attire for gentlemen will be black tie, college blazer or business suit.

The event is open to OCSNE members and their guests. Tickets cost $100 per person ($60 for student members) including wine and port with dinner and reception drinks. Please reserve online (you can pay using PayPal, a credit/debit card, or by check), for more information contact David Manns at secretary@oxcamne.org. Reservations should be made by Monday April 17.

LOCATION

The Winchester Country Club has ample parking. Directions are here. Although the Winchester Country Club is in the suburbs, one of the reasons we selected it is that it is readily accessible from Boston and Cambridge by public transportation.

Take the Red Line to Alewife and transfer to the 350 bus. If you pay on the Red Line with your Charley Card, swiping the Card on the 350 will get you a free transfer. Take the 350 to the Mystic Street / Old Mystic Street stop and you will be 50 yards from the Winchester Country Club. Outbound service is infrequent on the weekend, you would need to catch the 18:30 bus (it is an 11 minute journey)

Coming back, the last bus is at 10:13pm. The Club tells us that this bus is very reliable and that a number of the Club employees catch it.

Sincerely,

William Leaf-Herrmann
