Spring Dinner 2009

Professor James Collins

Our annual Spring Dinner was held on Saturday, 28th March, at Carlson Hall of Mount Ida College in Newton, Mass., starting at 6:30p.m.

We were fortunate to have as our speaker the distinguished scientist and engineer James Collins. Professor Collins read for his D.Phil. in medical engineering as a Rhodes Scholar at Balliol College, Oxford. He is now a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator at Boston University. For his pioneering research in engineered gene networks, gene regulation and the development of noise-based sensory prosthetics, Professor Collins received a MacArthur Foundation "Genius Award" in 2003, becoming the first bioengineer to receive this honor. The title of his talk was “Biology by Design”.
