Cricket at Longwood Cricket Club

An afternoon reception in conjunction with a cricket match at the Longwood Cricket Club on the afternoon of October 23rd when the Society’s team, the Faded Blues, will take on the New England champions, St. Columba’s CC of Newport, RI in a 25-over game.  As its name suggests, Longwood, which was established in 1877, began as a cricket club and though it eventually became dedicated to tennis -- site of the first and many subsequent Davis Cup matches; also of the annual US Pro Tennis Championships – it has retained its original title.  Prior to our earlier match two years ago the last cricket match to be played there was in 1933.  Once again, by way of celebrating the history of the club, its directors have very generously allowed us the use of the lawns for this game.  Longwood, which is located at 564 Hammond Street, Chestnut Hill, MA, can be reached by public transport on the Green Line (Chestnut Hill stop).  Join us at any time during the course of the afternoon.  Play starts at noon and will finish by 4pm.  There is a well-appointed clubhouse, with bar, and light snacks and refreshments will be served during the reception.
