Christmas Dinner 2006

with The Reverend Professor Peter J. Gomes

Our annual CHRISTMAS DINNER was held on Sunday, 3rd December, at The Boston Athenaeum at 10-1/2, Beacon Street, Boston.

Our speaker was The Reverend Professor Peter J. Gomes (Emmanuel), Plummer Professor of Christian Morals at Harvard and Pusey Minister in The Memorial Church. Professor Gomes is one of this country's most distinguished preachers, fulfilling preaching and lecturing engagements throughout America and the British Isles. He is also a prolific writer, having produced several best-selling books, ten volumes of sermons, and numerous articles and papers.

The Boston Athenaeum, one of the oldest and most distinguished independent libraries in the United States, was founded in 1807. For nearly half a century, the library was the unchallenged center of intellectual life in Boston, and by 1851 had become one of the five largest libraries in the United States. Today, its collections comprise over half a million volumes, with particular strengths in Boston history, New England state and local history, biography, English and American literature and the fine and decorative arts.
