Boat Race Dinner, Saturday June 9, 2012

You are cordially invited to the Society’s annual Boat Race Dinner on Saturday June 9th at The Cambridge Boat Club, Gerry’s Landing, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Festivities begin at 6:15pm with a reception and our own Oxford/Cambridge boat race on the Charles. If you are interested in rowing in our race, please contact Nick Copley at ncopley@gmail.com.  We will also show the video of the ‘official’ race which took place on the Thames in April.

Our speaker, Dr. John Ochsendorf (King’s College, Cambridge), is a world authority on ancient buildings. A former Fulbright scholar and a 2008 recipient of the prestigious Mac Arthur "genius" Fellowship, Dr. Ochsendorf is currently Associate Professor of Civil Engineering and Architecture at MIT. His multi-disciplinary research interests include the history of construction, masonry mechanics, and sustainable design. We are delighted to welcome him to our dinner when he will discuss the engineering analysis of historic architecture. He has titled his talk:

“From Inca Bridges to Gothic Cathedrals”

Attire for gentlemen will be black tie, college blazer or business suit. We remind those who plan to come that we give a commitment to our caterers several days before the dinner, and that after that point we are unable to refund any payment. The cost of the dinner is $95 per person ($75 for full time students). Booking is now closed: if you wish to be wait listed, please contact Dr. Richard Mansfield at rjwmansfield@post.harvard.edu.
