CHRISTMAS DINNER INVITATION Our annual CHRISTMAS DINNER will be held on Saturday, 20th December, at The Boston Athenaeum at 10-1/2, Beacon Street, Boston, starting at 6:30p.m. Our speaker will be Dr. Joseph Stanislaw (Clare Hall) President and CEO of Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA), an international research and advisory firm. Dr. Stanislaw is a former member of the Energy Research Group at the Cavendish Laboratory and lecturer in Economics at Cambridge. He spent several years with the International Energy Agency in Paris before returning to the United States. His latest book, "The Commanding Heights: The Battle for the World Economy", which he co-wrote with Daniel Yergin, deals with the shifting balance of power from governments to markets and examines the effect of this change on politics, economics and culture. A six hour documentary film based on this book has been shown on PBS and BBC. The Boston Athenaeum, one of the oldest and most distinguished independent libraries in the United States, was founded in 1807. For nearly half a century, the library was the unchallenged center of intellectual life in Boston, and by 1851 had become one of the five largest libraries in the United States. Today, its collections comprise over half a million volumes, with particular strengths in Boston history, New England state and local history, biography, English and American literature and the fine and decorative arts. For more detailed information, consult the Athenaeum web site at www.bostonathenaeum.org Seating at the Boston Athenaeum is limited to 100 persons. To ensure that all our members receive a fair chance at the available seating, you are requested to limit guests (including a non-member spouse) to one per member and return your reservation as soon as possible. All reservations will be handled on a first come first served basis. Attire for gentlemen will be black tie, college blazer or business suit. We remind those who plan to come that we give a commitment to our caterers several days before the dinner, and that after that point we are unable to refund any payment. Sincerely,
John M.
